The bark of trees in Siberia is thick and rough to the touch. Due to the extreme cold, trees grow dense layers of bark to survive, and I wanted to capture this texture in my work.
While developing this project, my mother—who still lives in Russia—collected numerous photos of tree bark from our small town to help with my research. Her contribution made this piece even more personal and meaningful.
These earrings are not only a small piece of Siberia, but also a special achievement in craftsmanship. Repoussé is rarely done in sterling silver, as the metal is harder to hammer and form, with a greater risk of breaking during the process. This makes these earrings even more unique—not only as a tribute to raw nature but also as my first attempt at repoussé using a more challenging material.
There are only two pieces created using this technique: a bracelet and a pair of earrings—a tangible connection to Siberia’s untamed beauty that you can always carry with you.
